Cheerios and raisins, mmmm
With soy milk of course.
I got a chance to talk with a local professional photographer at a Twitter meetup this weekend. I asked him about the Moon. He told me two things:
1. If you have a shitty tripod, the shutter action can actually blur your shot in sensitive situations (like low light). Guess what? I have a shitty tripod.
2. Being a real Magician, he knew of a formula called “Sunny 16“. There. I linked you to it, the interwebs have spoken. It’s basically a way to calculate a good exposure in sunlight. This secret can apparently be applied to moonlight as well. He wasn’t positive about it, but who is? Magic isn’t science.
Now I have a slightly better chance at the Moon next time I cross paths with it. Thanks Acme!
I linked you to Twitter at the beginning of this post. If you aren’t using it, you should. It’s fun. Also, all the cool kids are doing it. 99% of the people that are reading this are UAT alumni. UAT is about to get twitterfied. If you’re curious about what’s going on back at the Ol’ Ranch, you now have one more reason to twitter up.
While I’m writing about random stuff, here’s more.
I haven’t taken a “normal” self portrait since day two…I think. That was awhile ago. Todays shot returned to a more traditional style. This was actually an alternate, but the shot I was going for didn’t work out. I need some nifty lights or something to pull off the one I wanted.
I shall try again someday. Oh yes, I shalllll.

I think my big problem with twitter is the expanse of paid email essentially. Back in the day, there was always talk of a postal tax on emails. This of course never happened probably mainly due to email being decentralized.
Now enter Twitter, it’s a handy tool, don’t get me wrong. But unlike email, it is very centralized, locked into the very phone companies that are helping the government violate the very rights it is there to ensure don’t get violated. On top of that, we pay for it on both ends, sending SMS isn’t free, we pay phone bills. The phone companies also get paid to follow the law, providing phone taps, that’s our tax money paying for them to spy on us.
So, while twitter is handy, we can only hope that google will allow any device to use the wireless spectrum should it win the auction. I am concerned that part of them letting you use the spectrum will include sending data to them, which is unacceptable. By law, the phone companies have no choice but to allow us to plug anything into the network as long as it does not disrupt service for others. The FCC should treat wireless the same way.
CL,
Hey, it was nice to hang out at the meetup. I thought I should add a few things:
1) I have NEVER been to the moon.
2) I DO like cheese.
2) Nobody has ever hired me to photograph the moon.
@FatHed - Twitter cost me no extra money, other than time spend communicating, but that time could be “wasted” reading blogs, youtube’in, IM’ing etc.
I don’t use SMS, but can post via some apps on my blackberry. I like to use it to meet up w/ people for impromptu lunch and to ask for advice to my “network”
Sometims people I’ve met online will say, “Hey, my comapany, friend, etc needs a photographer… So I’ve expanded my network which has helped my business.
C ya online!
